"Whimsical Way" on exhibit

July 15, 2021

Our collaborative art piece, “Whimsical Way,” is on exhibit until the end of July 2021 in the main gallery at Doña Ana Arts Council, 250 West Amador Ave. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

At the start of the pandemic, we started this collaborative art project. More than 45 folx decorated papier mache houses, and artist Dorothy Zitzler created the final piece. See how we transformed “Neat Street” into a wonderfully unique neighborhood!

Transgender member booted from Las Cruces organization after requesting they/them pronouns

June 24, 2021

AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer 2020-2021 Michel Wing was in the news this summer, for an unfortunate reason.

After being invited, Michel had joined Civitans International Las Cruces, a service club whose mission is to serve folx with intellectual and developmental disabilities. However, when they asked the Civitans to use their pronouns (they/them), the club ended up kicking them out. Sun News reporter Algernon D'Ammassa wrote a thoughtful, well-researched article about the incident.
